History
In 1965 we started raising Hereford cattle. In 1990 we changed our operation to raising commercial purebred Angus. Through aggressive culling and an A/I program utilizing the latest genetics as well as high quality bulls, we developed a demand for our commercial Angus bulls.
Our herd size is based on the acreage available to us and the environment in which our cattle must live, reproduce and raise a calf. Those constraints led us in 1996 to purchase our first registered Angus heifers. We use a strict artificial insemination program and protocol. By utilizing a variety of sources, we are able to focus on factors such as: moderate frame scores, light birth weights, easy fleshing, rapid growth, early maturing, and superior carcass quality. Annually, we add new blood lines through the purchase of bred heifers. These heifers must meet strict criteria to be considered for inclusion in our herd.
We winter and calve our herd at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. Our cows must calve outside, sometimes in extremely harsh February weather conditions. We haul our cattle to summer pasture, which is 100 miles to the east. It is very rough country, composed of timber, shale, and steep hills with deep canyons. Our cows must climb these steep hills to get to the nutrient rich grass. We do not creep-feed our calves, or supplement our cows. They are fed a hay ration in the winter, and have free choice of mineral throughout the year.
The carcass quality requirements that we have introduced helped us develop a following for our meat. Our customers will pay a premium for hormone free, ranch raised beef.
